Portland, the City of Roses, sits on the banks of the Willamette River in northwest Oregon - in the shadow of  Mt. Hood, one of the Northwest's premier volcanoes. Portland is filled with cultural enclaves and neighborhoods and is a bastion of the Northwest's outdoor culture. Portland hotels range from the mundane, but decent, to grand independent hotels of the Northwest.

Its downtown core sits on the western bank of the river. Wide sidewalks, clean streets, a modern light rail, and clustered attractions make it easy to explore. Green spaces and parks run through the entire city and make for easy sanctuaries in a clean urban setting.
