Secrets & Tips for a Northwest golf vacation
Where to stay playing Chambers Bay
It's rare we suggest a golf vacation because of one golf course, but Chambers Bay Golf Course itself justifies a trip - yes, the municipal links that landed the 2015 US Open.
So, we made our anonymous visit and have two great lodging suggestions.
The Day Island B&B (dayislandbb.com), less than four miles away, has a great view of Puget Sound and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Prices range from $110-$430 per night for a suite or cottage.
In Tacoma, stay at the stylish Hotel Murano, where 40 acclaimed glass artists in this town famous for Dale Chihuly are on display. Prices range from $169-$469 per night.

Old Macdonald Opening for Bandon Dunes Golf Vacations
Well, in a limited way anyway, but we've always admired how the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon marches to its own beat, and its most recent announcement is just one more example.
Bandon Dunes Golf Resort's fourth course, Old Macdonald, isn't scheduled to open fully until June 2010, but from April 1 through October 31 of this year, the resort is, on a limited basis, making 10-hole preview rounds available to resort guests.
Quick: name another major golf resort that would allow play on its brand new course — one of the most highly anticipated new layouts in the country — before all 18 holes were ready. Any ideas?
Skamania Lodge golf a beautiful, fun treat
45 minutes east of Portland, Oregon, the 4-star Skamania Lodge sits on a bluff overlooking the spectacular Columbia River Gorge.
Known for wind-surfing, fishing and glacier-carved mountains, this area is an outdoor sports mecca.
The golf is great, too. While a bit quirkier than more expensive resort courses, the forested, mountain-style layout is simply fun. Steep drops from tee to fairway with beautiful views; narrow, chuted landing areas; and a great staff make this a fun golf adventure.
World-class Palouse Ridge Golf Club debuts
by Cameron Healey of Golf Today Northwest
Not far from prime wine country in Southeastern Washington, Palouse Ridge Golf Club has debuted as the #2 Best New Course You Can Play in the US.
A venture of Washington State University, the $12.3 million complex on 315 rolling, mostly treeless acres offers up dramatic views of distant mountains in Idaho and Oregon, a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse, an expansive practice center, and is a premier golf vacation stop.
